This position reimagines antiquated manufacturing equipment from the original purpose and envisions the possibilities for the customer, by incorporating new technology to upgrade or up-cycle the current machines to new life. Experienced engineer with concept to FAT/SAT machine installation preferred.
This talented senior mechanical engineer knows how to build prototypes from either new design ideas or re-invents industrial production machines for manufacturing by gutting decades old machines to its frame, totally rebuilding the unit into an advance state of the art, custom high-quality machine.
Travel to the customers sites to inspect equipment is required, with an eye to visualize manufacturing inefficiencies is vital. Using basic LEAN, Safety and Efficiency concepts, advising the customer of possibilities, in contemplating a modern creative manufacturing solution that will optimize their current low-functioning equipment. Critical analysis ability will be needed to provide the customer with calculated cost savings or efficiency gains. Experience with production line equipment is essential.
The ability to clearly communicate and articulate, while collaborating with the customer our solid engineering solutions effectively in person, at design presentations and reviews is paramount. As is a good temperament in accepting customer design suggestions, changes, or meeting deadlines required. A proven track record of staying within budget and scope is an important element we are looking for.
A strong knowledge for integrating state of the art equipment in machines, including controls and components with new or old machinery, plus the direct hands-on engineering expertise from concept to delivery makes the perfect candidate. An innovative, creative, and confident degreed mechanical engineer that designs equipment using SolidWorks, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience. Resumes including previous projects with examples of solid ingenuity will be considered a prospective candidate.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Creating, developing, and documenting designs required to assemble and manufacture the products of the organization. Will work closely with sales and manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet customer requirements while minimizing manufacturing costs.
- Design mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic motion systems.
- Design castings, stampings, machine components, structural framework, conduit, tubing, sheet metal housings, etc.
- Support fabrication department, test prototypes, make design changes, and evaluate finished product against design.
- Prepare product designs including 3D models, drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Provide engineering support for manufacturing and sales to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
- Perform cost analyses of product components.
- Work with other groups, suppliers, and customers both external and internal to determine product specifications and arranging equipment, evaluate products according to quality standards and specifications.
- 20% travel to customer sites.
- Perform other duties assigned from time to time by the management team.
Requirements and skills:
- Proven working experience as a Machine Designer Mechanical Engineer
- 20+ years’ experience in designing machines/equipment preferred.
- Use of PC and application software, including SolidWorks and 3D modeling.
- Ability to apply and comprehend mechanical engineering math and principals.
- Understanding of mechanical systems, mechanisms, rotational & sliding bearings, material selection, statics, structures, manufacturing processes, fabrication, assembly, fastener free technology.
- Ability to manage assigned design projects from concept to successful installation.
- Superior safety practices and knowledge.
- Time management and organizational skills.
- Examples of design projects, description of equipment is desired.

Required Education:
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field preferred
